Synopsis
An ordinary guy named Emmet (Chris Pratt) is mistaken as being the Master Builder, the one who can save the universe. With the aid of an old mystic Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), a tough young lady named Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), and Batman (Will Arnett), Emmet will fight to defeat the evil tyrant Lord Business (Will Ferrell) who is bent on destroying the universe by gluing it together.

The film has been in development at Warner Bros. since 2008.[8] In August 2009, it was announced that Dan and Kevin Hageman were writing the script for a comedy action adventure live-action/animated film.[9] Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were hired in June 2010, to write and direct the film.[10] In November 2011, it was reported that Warner Bros. had green-lit the film, with a schedule to release it in 2014. Australian Animal Logic will provide the animation, which is expected to comprise 80% of the film. Chris McKay, the director of Robot Chicken, has also joined Lord and Miller to co-direct the film.[8] In March 2012, Lord and Miller revealed its working title, Lego: The Piece of Resistance, and a storyline: "It involves many worlds. Basically, the least qualified Lego characters in the universe having to keep the world from being frozen together."[11] In April 2012, Warner Bros. scheduled the film for February 28, 2014.
The first cast was reported in June 2012, with Chris Pratt voicing Emmet, the lead Lego character, and Will Arnett voicing Lego Batman; while the role of Lego Superman has been offered to Channing Tatum.[13] In August 2012, it was revealed that Elizabeth Banks will voice "tough-as-nails" Lucy and Morgan Freeman will lend his voice to Vitruvius, an old mystic.[14] The film will tell a story of Emmet, an ordinary, law-abiding, Lego minifigure, who is mistaken for the most extraordinary MasterBuilder. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers including Vitruvius, Lucy and Batman, on a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the universe together.[13][14] In October 2012, Warner Bros. shifted the release date for the film, simply titled Lego, to February 7, 2014.[15] On November 2012, Alison Brie, Will Ferrell, Liam Neeson and Nick Offerman have signed on for roles. Brie will voice a member of Emmet's team with a powerful secret, Ferrell will play a villain named President Business, Neeson will play a foe called Bad Cop and Offerman will play Metalbeard,[16] a pirate seeking revenge on the President.[17] On March 21, 2013, it was announced the name of the movie would be "The Lego Movie".
Since July 2012, a contest has been running on the official Facebook page, which will enable the winning Lego vehicle to appear in the film.[19] 17 Lego building sets based on the film's scenes and characters will be released, along with a new set of 16 Minifigures.
Lord and Miller confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con International 2013 that the film will combine stop-motion and computer animation. Miller's personal Lego set from his childhood, Space Village, will be utilized in the film

The first trailer for the film was released on Tuesday (with the slightly different international version making its debut on Wednesday), and if the new feature-length adventure is anything like the recent LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Batman TV specials, it's sure to please.
The story features on Emmet, an "ordinary" LEGO Minifigure who is mistaken for the legendary "MasterBuilder" and thrust into an adventure to stop an evil tyrand from destroying the world -- by gluing it together!
Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman star as the voices of the LEGO Minifigs in the computer animated epic, which is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2014.
The film is directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the same guys who helmed Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and 21 Jump Street.
